Actor Javier Munoz, the new star of award-winning Broadway show, ‘Hamilton,’ appeared on The Late Show to talk to Stephen Colbert about what fuels his drive to play the founding father on stage.

The 40-year-old was recently announced to be taking over the show’s creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda, as the male lead.

At this year’s Tony Awards, ‘Hamilton’ was nominated for a record-setting 16 awards, which it took home 11, including Best Musical.

It was also the recipient of the 2016 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, and the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

On The Late Show, Munoz and Colbert talked about why the actor was dubbed the ‘sexy Hamilton.’

‘The goatee, the hair, and everything?’ Colbert asked.

The actor also had the honor to perform for President Obama, and he shared that actually Miranda had passed the opportunity to him and told him that he would do a great job.

On what helps him to relate to the life of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, Munoz said that his own life battles with cancer and HIV allowed him to.

‘My drive is rooted in my own personal experience in my life — it’s the fear of dying,’ said Munoz.
