Oh, the humidity! Tonga flag bearer for the Rio2016 Pita Taufatofua is sending social media crazy in shots from the opening ceremony.
Taufatofua, 32, was head of his country’s procession at Maracanã Stadium, wearing just a necklace and traditional ceremonial dress: a Tepenu.
Oh, and coconut oil. Lots of coconut oil.
He’s a professional Taekwondo athlete and is the first ever person from Tonga to qualify in the Olympics in the sport.
Tonga is a small island nation in the south Pacific Ocean, not far from Australia.
He’s coming to the Olympics as a self-funded athelete, having tried to attend twice before.
He raised $6,262 (€5648) in four months to be here.
