The 22-year-old diver says it’s “never been more important to be totally accepting and inclusive”.
Diver Tom Daley has taken to Instagram to express his excitement for his husband-to-be’s new mini-series, When We Rise.
Produced by Dustin Lance Black and Gus Van Sant – the Oscar-winning duo behind 2009’s Harvey Milk biopic Milk – the eight-hour, seven-episode series is set to tell the full and unflinching history of the US gay rights movement, starting with the infamous Stonewall Riots of 1969.
The series, which is set to air in the US on ABC in February, is based in part on the memoir of the same name released earlier this year by renowned LGBT and AIDS activist Cleve Jones.
Daley and fiancé Dustin were at the series’ premiere at the Rome Film Festival this weekend. The 22-year-old diver uploaded a shot of the pair on the red carpet to Instagram, while seemingly alluded to recent political changes in Black’s home country of the United States, where President-elect Donald Trump is just weeks away from being sworn into office.
“So proud of this one tonight. 🙂 I can’t wait for the rest of the world to see “When We Rise”!” he wrote. “It’s never been more important to be totally accepting and inclusive”.
When We Rise is set to hit US screens in February on ABC. Watch the first-look below:
