Thinning on top? It turns out shaving it all off will make you sexier, according to science
If you find you’re a guy and you’re upset about losing your locks, it turns out being bald may be making you more beautiful.
A new study has revealed guys – especially younger ones – find bald men more attractive, more dominant and more confident than men with hair.
Students were asked to rate photos of men according to attractiveness, confidence and dominance by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania.
Some photos also digitally removed hair from some of the pictures, showing the same person with or without their hair.
And the bald men won out in all three categories.
The men who had shaved their heads were seen as even more appealing.
Ranked by attractiveness, it was seen as bald as the most sexy, then men with thick hair, and then men with thinning hair.
‘Choosing to dispense with one’s hair is arguably a form of nonverbal behavior, a form of expression which communicates information about the self otherwise difficult to observe,’ the researchers wrote.
And while bald men were viewed on average four years older than men with hair, there were other pros to ditching the locks.
Bald men also seen as taller and stronger
They were viewed as nearly an inch taller on average, and 13% stronger when pictured with shaved heads versus with hair.
Other findings also suggest they believed bald men would do better in business and economically overall.
So it turns out rather than spending money on trying to reverse what will happen naturally, researchers just say you should go with it.
‘Instead of spending billions each year trying to reverse or cure their hair loss, the counter-intuitive prescription of this research to men experiencing male pattern baldness is to shave their heads.’
